Indian Beauty Secret: Sandalwood and Turmeric Facial Mask

Hello lovelies! Today I just wanted to do a quick blog about a herbal skincare remedy: using sandalwood and turmeric on your face to achieve flawless glowing skin. We all know that facial masks come is various styles and types such as: peel-off masks, clay or cream masks.Often I like to make my own facial masks using the ingredients found at home.Is also a better option since you know what ingredients are in there. One of my favourite facial mask that works best for my skin is turmeric and sandalwood. Sandalwood/Chandan, has anti-septic properties, anti-inflammatory properties, soothing, cooling and lightening properties when used on the skin. It also helps to lighten acne scars and works even better when used in conjunction with turmeric.Turmeric has similar benefits like sandalwood. Both are spices, where turmeric is part of the ginger family and known for its colouring properties and sandalwood is a class of fragrant woods, known for its fragrant properties. Turmeric is also anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, acne healing, skin tone evening, lightening properties of sandalwood. Now you can either do turmeric face masks or sandalwood face masks or combine both, which is what I prefer.

Now here’s how to:

1. Mix sandalwood, turmeric, milk in a bowl to make a paste
Sandalwood and turmeric can be purchased from your local grocery store or any indian store. If there aren’t any stores nearby that sell sandalwood powder, try any online merchant that sells pure, authentic sandalwood powder.
1 tablespoons of turmeric 1 tablespoon of sandalwood 3 tablespoons milk.
If you don’t prefer to use regular milk, you can still make the paste by adding either water, rosewater or almond milk. Just make sure to use liquid, or the powder will become a paste.

2. Once you’ve got a nice paste going on, apply it to your face
It dries quickly but you should leave it on for about 30 minutes. Use this time to relax and rejuvenate your skin and mind. To add to the relaxing experience, you can place green tea bags or 2 cotton balls soaked in lavender or rose water on your eyes.

3. Wash and pat your face dry
You might notice that your face has a yellowish tinge, don’t PANIC! It’s the hue from the sandalwood and turmeric and it will fade away soon.

4. Continue on with your regular skincare routine
You can apply this mask 3 times a week for optimal results; however, once a week works just as fine too.

So there you have it ladies! My quick blog about the benefits of  sandalwood and turmeric mask.

Has any one tried sandalwood or turmeric masks before? Tell me what you think!

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Pack- Goes out to all oily and acne prone beauties

Hello lovelies,

First of all I want to apologise for being on hiatus since my last post.

Today’s post is a quick one! It goes out to all oily and acne prone beauties.

The magic word is NEEM! For those who are not sure what this is, Neem is a well known plant famous for its antibacterial properties, which helps in controlling acne and pimples, and their recurrence.

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Pack
The mask has a dark green color (similar to henna) that turns light green after drying. It has a perfect consistency which is neither too thick nor too runny and spreads easily onto skin. It has a grainy texture which is a mixture of fuller’s earth and dry Neem leaves. It has a mild Neem fragrance that goes off after some time.
Neem & Fuller’s earth are its key ingredients which are highly effective for any oily acne prone skin.

How to apply:
Apply evenly over cleansed face and neck, avoiding the area around the eyes. Allow the mask to dry for 10-15 minutes. Remove  the mask either using a wet towel or wet cotton ball, and wash the skin with warm water. I recommend using it once or twice a week. Beware that it may cause some tingling sensation due to herbal active ingredients, which is absolutely NORMAL!
I would recommend using rose water or aloe vera gel after rinsing off the mask( available at any indian grocery stores)

Packaging : It come in a white squeeze tube with green flip open cap.

It is an ideal face mask for oily to combination skin, even dry skin beauties can use this mask. It has reduced my breakouts to certain extent. It is affordable and its travel friendly packaging makes this mask a must have product in skin care.

I strongly recommend this mask to calm down problematic skin and to welcome the summer season. I will definitely buy this mask again!

What I’m loving about Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Pack
It controls break outs to a large extent. I’ve been using it for a few months now and it has definitely reduced my breakouts.
Inexpensive – the price is quite affordable (can buy it from any indian grocery store).

What others might not like about Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Pack
It gives a tingling sensation when you use it. It’s very mild and nothing  too serious.
The face pack separates sometimes and gives out only greenish liquid( shake before applying).

Beauty tip: You can leave the mask on pimples to dry it out.
Just leave it on the spot overnight and you'll notice
the difference next day!

Fragrances: My Top Perfumes for Winter Months

Hello lovelies! I hope you all liked my previous post( link provided) regarding the benefits of apple cider vinegar. Winter has just arrived, and that AVC bottle is bound to get handy in the next coming months. Today I thought I would talk about some of my favourite winter perfumes. From left to right I have ‘Hypnose Lancome’ ‘Daisy Dream Marc Jacob’ ‘Chanel Coco Noir ‘  and ‘Ma Vie Pour Femme Hugo Boss’

Chanel Coco Noir

This perfume adds seduction and depth to Chanel’s timeless Coco fragrance. The deeply rich and provocative aroma of Coco Noir has a woody, floral scent with accents of spice and sensual musk that delicately lingers on the skin. This chic perfume is perfect for those long winter nights. Coco Noir has notes of grapefruit, bergamot, orange, rose, jasmine, geranium, patchouli, tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood, and white musk. If you want to feel pretty, romantic and cozy, give it a try. It’s got a truly narcotic effect. This fragrance wears noticeably on my skin for around six hours and is mostly gone by eight hours. On the whole, this perfume is a wearable, easygoing fragrance that many will love.It can be worn both day  and night, however I find is more suited for night time as it does have that heavier smell.

Ma Vie Pour Femme Hugo Boss

The inspiration of this perfume draws from the independent spirit of a woman. Ma Vie is described as “strong, feminine and independent”. The fragrance is fresh and unique. The blooming bouquet of pink freesia, jasmine petals and rose buds is at the heart of this perfume, while the intense warmth of cedarwood forms the base. I personally adore this fragrance-  it is slightly on the sweet side, but still fresh and playful. The scent lingers on my skin about 4-5 hours (not as long as Chanel Coco Noir ). The pink bottle is also very cute, giving it a girly and sweet look.

Hypnose Lancome

This woodsy and oriental fragrance features passion flower which creates both gentle and passionate feminine aura; a magical product of orchid and vanilla, which smells warm and creamy on skin; and white flowers and jasmine giving a  sensual and deep sensation. The beautiful bottle is designed in a form of  a woman’s silhouette, and the colour of the perfume hypnotizes just like tender blue woman’s eyes. The passion flower and vanilla scent lasts all day. I have been using this perfume for the last 5 years and is truly remained one of the most unforgettable fragrances with the heady note of vanilla that lingers for hours! I feel very feminine and relaxed when I wear this beautiful perfume, it also attracts a lot of attention from the opposite sex! SO LADIES A MUST HAVE in your fragrance collection.

Daisy Dream Marc Jacobs for women

I adore all Marc Jacobs Daisy perfumes. They smell gorgeous and the packaging is to die for! Daisy Dream is the newest addition to my perfume collection and it is probably the pretties bottle so far. The scent is a fruity floral fragrance inspired by daises and blue skies. The fruity-floral fragrance is bursting with top notes of blackberry, grapefruit, and pear. The heart notes are introduced with a bouquet of jasmine, lychee, and blue wisteria, and a medley of white woods, musks, and coconut water reveal the base notes. It is exactly what I expected – feminine, airy, light and perfect for daytime. The fragrance bottle is also very cute, enveloped in a shawl of laced daisies, topped with a silver cap, and adorned with gold hues and daisy accents.

So there you have it ladies! My top 4 fragrance for this winter.

I would love to hear your favourite fragrances for this winter.

Grocery Store Beauty Secret: Apple Cider Vinegar

IMG_0004Hello Lovelies, today’s blog is about how I use Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). Now this staple ingredient has more uses than dressing salads or making pickles! In fact is a all-in-one beauty product for all of your natural beauties on a budget. ACV can be purchased from any grocery store. I buy mine from Woolworths for $6.29. It does not really matter where you get it from as long is the good stuff. Make sure you use raw, all-natural apple cider vinegar for maximum benefits!

Here are 4 ways of how I use apple cider vinegar!

Constant use of harsh soaps and shampoos can dry out hair. However, the acidity of AVC counteracts that process and actually balances the hair’s natural pH levels, by removing clumpy residue and gunk in hair from product buildup. It also works as a natural detangler. When used regularly in your natural hair care routine, apple cider vinegar can revitalise your hair, leaving it soft and smooth. The vinegar also works by closing the cuticle of the hair, which makes light reflect off it making your hair super shiny! Simply Combine 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 of distilled water in a container and mix well. Follow your normal routine of shampooing your hair like you would normally do and rinse well. Apply the mixture (a spray bottle works great), leave it on for just a few seconds, and rinse with cold water to lock in the shine. No need for conditioning hair afterwards. Do this about 1-3 times a week depending on your hair condition. I usually do it 2 times a week.

2. Skin

Our skin is naturally acidic, apple cider vinegar can help restore your skin’s natural pH balance. When your pH levels are in balance your skin sits at that optimum level between oily and dry, improving your overall complexion. Apple cider vinegar helps to reduce red marks and blemishes, and soften skin. So try it out for yourself by adding a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to your next bath! I guarantee you you will see the difference. LADIES put that bottle of apple cider vinegar to work. IMG_0020 3. Facial Toner

Personally I am not a huge fan of toners as I hardly notice a difference on my face if I use it. I never really appreciated toner for some reason. I thought it was something companies made to get us to buy more but wasn’t really necessary. However this natural way is recommendable. Simply make a toner by mixing four parts water to one part apple cider vinegar and applying it with a cotton ball after cleansing. Allow it to dry and then use your regular moisturiser—you’ll find that your face cream sinks in better. Please be notable ladies that if you have a sunburn or very sensitive skin, try it on a small area first to see if your skin gets irritated, because HOLY MOTHER IT WILL BURN if applied on sensitive areas. Just dab some apple cider vinegar straight onto blemishes before going to bed. It will dry them out while working to fade age spots or acne scars. Trust me it has worked for me! One part apple cider vinegar mixed with two parts water creates a refreshing toner that leaves skin glowing. When lightly sprayed or dabbed on the face, the acidity of the vinegar will create a light layer on the skin, locking in moisture. For you ladies worried about the vinegar smell don’t worry the smell will dissipate after a few minutes. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to dilute the solution further.  I can definitely say that AVC  tightens pores, helps clear up acne and fights future breakouts. It’s anti-bacterial and an antiseptic and helps to re-balance your skin’s pH level after it’s been disrupted from washing it. Not bad for a bottle from a grocery store aisle AYE?

4. Deodorant

Now this may seem odd but AVC can actually be used as an underarm deodorant! All you have to do is apply some to your underarms with a cotton ball. It will have a strong scent at first, but that will soon neutralise and you will be left feeling as fresh as ever. Now those who are wondering how it works… well to put it in chemical terms most commercial deodorants are antiperspirants, which block your ability to sweat. Since sweat is one of your body’s natural means of detoxification, blocking your ability to sweat can block your ability to detoxify. Plus, most drugstore deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminium and a host of unpronounceable chemicals and synthetic fragrances, so you want to avoid them anyway. Apple cider vinegar absorbs and neutralises stinky scents. Simply rub a bit of ACV in your underarms and it will absorb and minimise body odors. The vinegary smell dissipates once it dries. IMG_0023

So there you have it ladies!! in a nutshell of how I use apple cider vinegar!

Do you know any other uses for apple cider vinegar? Comment and share your secret!

Phantoms Day Out

Hey All!
Today I’m doing a quick blog which is completely off topic to what I usually post!!! Now if you are a dog lover like me then you’ll find this post helpful! I just wanted to share with you guys  some of the fenced-off dog parks in Melbourne.

IMG_0001After tremendous research to find which parks would be best to take my husky, I decided to first try out Mernda’s Off Leash Dog Park (46 mins drive from Melbourne; Cnr Plenty Road & Mernda Village Drive, Mernda). This park is reasonable sized with plenty of space for your four-legged friend to run around and meet other dogs. Unfortunately, we did not stay at this park for too long due to a large hole in the middle of the park that was filled with muddy water. My dog (Phantom) kept going near it and I was worried he would eventually roll in it. I also wanted to explore the other two parks. Continue reading

Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

Hello Ladies,
I know it has been awhile since my last post!(link to previous post). Past 2 weeks has been so hectic with work and online course. I promise to post as often as I can! 🙂
Many of you might be aware of the Setting Sprays that seem to be popping up everywhere over the last few years. I’ve finally decided to actually try them out and decide for myself if they’re worth adding another step to my makeup routine. Urban Decay has 3 sprays; De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray, Chill Cooling and Hydrating Makeup Setting Spray and All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray( I will be reviewing this one). I’ve been using the All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray over the past 2 weeks or so, and yes, this definitely helps makeup last a lot longer. The spray feels wet when applied, however, once it dries in about a minute it feels undetectable on the skin. YIMG_0026ou don’t feel any tightness or stickiness from the liquid- is pretty much like an invisible shied on your face. It is also unscented. Instructions say to spray about 20-25 cm away from the face 2-4 times in a T and X formation – very straightforward and simple. It sprays fine mist so it’s evenly distributed on the skin. I also noticed that spraying All Nighter made my foundation and powder look less cakey. I’m using the 30ml sized bottle, however you can also get this in the full sized bottle ~118ml. I don’t use this daily but do rely on it if I have to be out all day and night without the want nor means to constantly re-touch my make-up. I would recommend everyone set their make-up in place, especially during the hotter months, as you can rest assured that it will still look the same as it did when you walked out the door. Aside from the fact that it keeps my makeup in pIMG_0029lace all day, and of course all night, it lasted way longer than I expected so the price tag is certainly worth it ( MECCA $22). I really prefer the smaller bottle, it’s handy to just chuck it in my bag and top up only if necessary throughout the day. For you ladies who want their make-up to stay in place all day long (I’m talking a good 10 hours for normal/dry skin and around 8 hours for oily skin) you really can not fault the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. Generally speaking this is perfect for normal to dry skin types looking to prolong make-up wear.

YES ladies this spray does work and will help make-up stay in place to an extent due to it mattifying the skin and preventing make-up from sliding off the skin.I do hope you ladies will run out to your nearest Urban Decay counters and try out this spray.

Hello Lovelies! Just a quick post to share to you all my secret to beautiful skin! It’s Invite E vitamin E cream and oil!!! I use both the cream and oil at night and day! I seriously can’t live without them, especially around IMG_0077colder seasons where my skin seems to need as much moisture as it can get. I purchased the Vitamin E Cream Tub (250 g) for $18.49 and the pure oil 15ml for $11.49 from Priceline. You’ll notice that at first when you put the cream on it doesn’t feel overly moisturising as it sinks into the skin very quickly but stick with it, the results are AMAZING! My skin feels lovely and soft when I wake up next day. While the cream is easy to apply, unfortunately the same can’t be said for the oil. The pure Invite E Vitamin E Oil is very difficult to get out of the container as it is very viscous. It’s hard to spread it on a big area because of it’s consistency. It is also impossible to tell if the opaque container is finished. However it works wonderful on small spots such as around the eyes or lips, while for rest of the body, is best to stick with the cream. For the price,IMG_0073 I think both of these products are great and worth a go if you are looking tIMG_0080o try out some new skincare. Overall is a wonderful moisturiser for dry skin. It also proclaims to be good for scaly skin, wrinkles and helps in improving skin elasticity. Tip: When applying the cream all over the body, take extra time applying on rough areas of the body such as knees, elbows and feet as it can help soften these areas. The cream is thick and lightly fragranced. Both moisturises well and is great for Winter.  These product are a MUST to keep your skin well hydrated and soft. Continue reading
